Current Delivery vs.
Dynamic Oxygen Delivery
Wastes up to 50% of oxygen. Standard delivery to both nostrils simultaneously does not respond to the nasal cycle, deviated septums or other unilateral resistance. This very likely results in inefficient therapy and wasting prescribed oxygen.
Irritates congested nostril. Constant delivery through both nasal passages is contrary to what we know of the nasal cycle. Not allowing each nostril time to rest and rehydrate may cause patients bleeding, scabbing, and other discomforts.
Shortened cylinder/concentrator duration. Depending on the device, up to 50% of oxygen delivered by the previous method is lost in the atmosphere. This causes patients on cylinders and portable concentrators to refill or recharge frequently, which can be very inconvenient.
Delivers ‘Minute Volume’. The same amount of oxygen is delivered every minute, regardless of breath rate. This means when a patient’s breath rate increases, the amount of oxygen delivered each breath decreases.
